Agartala, June 17, 2025: Tripura Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath launched a sharp counterattack on Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday accusing him of making derogatory remarks against BJP leaders, their ally Tipra Motha and of engaging in “body-shaming.”

Addressing the media personnel at the BJP state headquarters in Agartala city on Tuesday afternoon, Nath demanded a public apology from Chaudhury for his alleged comments. “If he made such remarks in a sound mental state, he should apologize. Otherwise, the CPI(M) must take responsibility and ensure his treatment,” Nath said.

The minister alleged that Chaudhury used inappropriate language to criticize leaders from the ruling party and their ally, including an indirect jibe at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He claimed Chaudhury branded the BJP and Tipra Motha Party as liars without any basis.

Highlighting a specific remark, Nath accused Chaudhury of making offensive generalizations about tall individuals. “He implied that tall people are unintelligent, which is an insult not just to individuals but to many national icons,” said Nath, citing names such as actor Amitabh Bachchan, cricketer Ishant Sharma, Odisha leader Biju Patnaik, and former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

Nath also referred to Chaudhury’s past tenure, alleging that he was dropped from the cabinet under former CM Manik Sarkar due to various controversies. “A file maintained by the late minister Anil Sarkar reportedly documented Chaudhury’s misdeeds, including his alleged involvement in the ginger scam,” Nath claimed.

The BJP minister’s remarks come amid growing political friction between the ruling party and the Left opposition, intensifying ahead of key political developments in the state.
