Agartala, August 05, 2025: Aiming to boost fish farming in Tripura, the state’s first Pisciculture Knowledge Center was inaugurated on Tuesday near Vidyanagar High School in Paitur Bazar, Kailashahar. The center aims to provide scientific and technical support to fish farmers across Unakoti district.
Tripura’s Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das formally inaugurated the center in the presence of Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Amalendu Das, members Bimal Kar and Shyamal Das, social worker Pritam Ghosh, and senior officials of the Fisheries department. The event was presided over by Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debroy.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Das highlighted the state’s achievements in fish production. “Compared to 2018, fish production has increased by nearly 10,000 metric tons. While the state now produces 86,000 metric tons of fish annually, there’s still a deficit of around 31,000 metric tons,” he said.
The Minister also announced a major upcoming project: “An integrated aqua park is being developed in the haor region at a cost of Rs 100 crore, of which Rs 43 crore has already been sanctioned by the central government. This park will not only revolutionize fish farming but also enhance tourism with facilities like boating and recreational fishing.”
Referring to the new knowledge center, he said, “This is the first time a Pisciculture Knowledge Center is being launched in Kailashahar. It will empower fish farmers with technical, scientific, and practical knowledge. Starting tomorrow, a Superintendent of Fisheries will be stationed here to provide ongoing support.”
Local experts believe this initiative will pave the way for a new chapter in the fisheries sector of Kailashahar and Unkoti district.
