Tripura Minister Sudhangshu Das Launches FMD Vaccination Drive to Protect Livestock and Strengthen Rural Economy

Agartala, June 01, 2026: Tripura’s Animal Resource Development (ARD) Minister Sudhangshu Das on Monday inaugurated the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination programme at Dighalia Gram Panchayat under Bamutia R.D. Block, marking a significant step towards safeguarding livestock health in the state.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister stated that the primary objective of the initiative is to prevent outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease, a highly contagious ailment that poses a serious threat to livestock. He emphasized that maintaining the health of livestock is crucial for strengthening the rural economy and ensuring sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers and livestock rearers.

Das highlighted that the vaccination drive reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing animal healthcare infrastructure and minimizing economic losses caused by disease outbreaks. He noted that a healthy livestock population directly contributes to increased productivity and income generation in rural areas.

Urging active participation, the Minister called upon livestock rearers to cooperate fully with the Department of Animal Resource Development. “Through collective efforts, we can build a healthy, safe, and productive livestock sector,” he said.

Department Secretary Deepa D Nair, Director Neeraj Kumar Chanchal and local representatives were present during the inaugural ceremony.
