Agartala, July 12, 2025: In a bid to foster a healthier, addiction-free society, Tripura’s ARDD, Fisheries, and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Saturday took part in an Anti-Drug Awareness Program held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Fatikroy.

Themed ‘Investing in Prevention’, the awareness campaign was organized by the Kumarghat RD Block and managed by the Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti. The initiative underscored the critical role of community participation in the fight against drug abuse.

Speaking at the event, Minister Das stressed the importance of mental empowerment and community support in safeguarding youth from substance abuse. “Awareness and a positive mindset are the strongest weapons we have. If we want to protect our youth, we must invest in their mindset, empower them with knowledge, purpose, and support,” he said.

The Minister praised the sustained efforts of the BJP-led state government under Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, asserting that Tripura has made visible progress in its commitment to become a drug-free state.

“From enforcement to rehabilitation, the government has taken a zero-tolerance approach to drugs and has launched a series of initiatives aimed at curbing narcotics,” he added.

Calling the anti-drug mission a “social movement,” Das noted that long-term success depends on collective action. “This fight is not only the responsibility of law enforcement—it is a community mission that requires compassion and consistent investment in prevention,” he remarked.

To further encourage youth engagement, the program included the distribution of sports equipment to various local clubs and organizations—an effort aimed at promoting healthy, active lifestyles as alternatives to addiction.

Minister Das expressed optimism that such initiatives would inspire young people to turn toward constructive pursuits and help build stronger community ties.
