Agartala, November 19, 2025: To expedite the four-lane expansion of the Assam–Agartala National Highway (NH-8), Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday chaired a key coordination meeting with stakeholders at Geetanjali Hall, Ranirbazar.
The meeting involved traders, shopkeepers, and local residents whose establishments and properties lie along the stretch between the Ranirbazar Fire Station and the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Chandrapur.

Chowdhury said the primary objective of the interaction was to iron out pending land-related hurdles that have been slowing the progress of the highway widening work. He described the discussions as productive, adding that resolving these issues is vital for speeding up the project.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to timely completion of the NH-8 expansion, the minister noted that the upgraded corridor will significantly improve connectivity and support local economic activity. Better road infrastructure, he said, will benefit both commuters and businesses along the route.
The meeting ended with a broad understanding between the administration and stakeholders, clearing the way for smoother and faster execution of the ongoing project.
