Agartala, December 16, 2025. The Ministry of Railways has accorded sanction for conducting a Final Location Survey (FLS) for the construction of a new railway line between Jirania and Bodhjung Nagar in Tripura. The proposed section will cover a length of 14 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 42 lakh. The alignment falls entirely within West Tripura district.

The approval marks a significant step toward strengthening railway infrastructure and boosting industrial activities in the state. Bodhjung Nagar is a major industrial and commercial hub of Tripura, developed primarily for resource-based industries such as rubber, bamboo and food processing. The proposed Jirania–Bodhjung Nagar rail link is expected to provide a crucial corridor for the transportation of industrial produce, benefiting traders, entrepreneurs and the wider population.

Officials said the sanctioned survey will also help promote further industrial development in nearby districts, thereby contributing to overall economic growth. Once operational, the new line is expected to improve railway connectivity, facilitate smoother train operations, strengthen local supply chains and support regional development.

The Final Location Survey will involve a detailed examination of geographical features, soil conditions, proposed bridges and other engineering aspects. Based on the findings, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Ministry of Railways for further consideration and approval. The FLS is a vital preparatory stage for the execution of the proposed new line project.

Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NF Railway Kapinjal Kishore Sharma informed in a press communiqué today.

Responding to the approval, State Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury termed the sanction a major milestone for Tripura’s industrial growth. He noted that Bodhjung Nagar serves as the core of the state’s industrial ecosystem and said a dedicated railway connection would lower transportation costs, streamline freight operations and encourage fresh investment.

The minister further said the decision underscores the Centre’s focus on improving connectivity in the Northeast and affirmed that the proposed rail corridor would play a key role in advancing Tripura’s long-term objective of developing into a competitive manufacturing hub.
