Agartala, June 16, 2025: A tragic incident took place in Tripura’s Durgapur area under Ward No. 14 of Kailashahar Municipal Council on Sunday afternoon as a 14-year-old boy lost his life after reportedly hanging himself while playing.

The deceased has been identified as Mrinmoy Das, son of Mantosh Das. According to initial accounts from the family, Mrinmoy was alone at home and was playing on the roof using a ladder and a veil. It is suspected that while playing, he accidentally slipped and the veil got entangled around his neck leading to his death.

“We believe it was a tragic accident. He was a bright child and often played around like this,” said a grieving family member recalling the moments before the discovery.

Upon spotting him in a critical condition, the family members rushed to bring him down and tried to revive him, but it was too late. He was declared dead after being taken to Kailashahar RGM Hospital.

Local residents gathered at the scene, shocked and devastated by the sudden loss. “He was an intelligent boy, very good in studies despite coming from a poor family. This is an unbearable loss for all of us,” said a neighbor.

A team from Kailashahar Police Station led by Sub-Inspector Ashish Pal along with TSR personnel arrived at the spot soon after being informed. Police have initiated a formal inquiry into the matter.
