Agartala, May 29, 2025: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 39-year-old man in Tripura’s Nakucherra ADC Village under Dumbur Nagar RD Block of Gandacherra sub-division in the early hours of May 27. The accused identified as Purna Dayal Chakma remains at large, according to police sources.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. when the minor, daughter of Chandra Kumar Chakma, was alone at her home in Prabhu Ram Para. Her parents were away working at a rubber plantation and did not return home that night due to the late hour. Taking advantage of the situation, Purna Dayal Chakma, a married resident of Kina Mohan Para, allegedly broke into the house, covered the girl’s face with a cloth, and assaulted her.

“The accused forcibly entered the house and committed this heinous act,” said a senior official at Gandacherra Police Station. “We are treating this case with utmost priority and are actively pursuing the suspect.”

The victim confided in her mother about the incident the following day when her parents returned home. On May 28, Chandra Kumar Chakma, the girl’s father, filed a written complaint with the Gandacherra Police Station. Authorities promptly launched an investigation, visiting the crime scene and arranging a medical examination for the minor at Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Hospital. A forensic team from Kailashahar in Unakoti district was also summoned due to the victim’s age.

“We are ensuring a thorough investigation, and the medical examination is underway to gather evidence,” the official added. The case has been registered under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Despite efforts, Purna Dayal Chakma remains absconding, and police are intensifying their search. “We are doing everything possible to apprehend the accused as soon as possible,” the official stated.
