Agartala, May 21, 2026: In a major step towards strengthening Tripura’s digital and creative economy, the Directorate of Information Technology (DIT), Government of Tripura, organised a stakeholder consultation programme on the draft Tripura AVGC-XR Policy in Agartala today. The initiative aims to develop a comprehensive policy framework for the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector in the state.
The consultation brought together senior government officials, industry experts, academic professionals, founders, and stakeholders from the AVGC-XR ecosystem to discuss strategies for promoting creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, skill development, and digital employment opportunities in Tripura.
The programme was attended by Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary, Information Technology, Government of Tripura, along with senior officials, directors from various departments, and other dignitaries. The event began with a presentation by Jeya Ragul Geshan B., IFS, Director of Information Technology, who outlined the State Government’s vision for building a vibrant AVGC-XR ecosystem in Tripura.
The presentation highlighted the draft policy’s objectives, proposed interventions, priority areas, and implementation strategies. Special focus was placed on talent development, entrepreneurship promotion, industry participation, content creation, and employment generation within the state.
Addressing the gathering, Kiran Gitte highlighted the significant progress achieved in Tripura’s IT sector in recent years, particularly in areas such as digital infrastructure, technology adoption, capacity building, and innovation-driven governance initiatives.
The technical sessions featured expert interventions by Austin Davis from the National Institute of Design (NID), Gandhinagar, and Manvendra Shukul from IICT. Professor Saikat Roy from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata, also shared insights into the evolving media and entertainment landscape and the emerging opportunities in the AVGC-XR sector.
The programme additionally included a special session on entrepreneurial journeys featuring Mr. Anurag Khurana, Founder of New Gen Gaming, and Mr. Vishal Parekh, Founder of Cyber Power. The speakers discussed enterprise creation, business growth, innovation, market opportunities, and ways local youth and creators could engage with the rapidly expanding AVGC-XR industry.
An open forum discussion was also held as part of the consultation process, focusing on how the proposed policy could create meaningful opportunities through skill development, startup promotion, cultural content creation, employment generation, and youth-led innovation.
According to the DIT, the consultation aimed to gather suggestions from stakeholders and strengthen the policy framework so that it remains responsive to the needs of industry, academia, students, creators, and citizens. The Government of Tripura intends to establish a robust AVGC-XR ecosystem aligned with emerging industry opportunities and the broader vision of the “orange economy.”
The release further stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and guidance of Information Technology, Finance, and Planning & Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, the State Government remains committed to fostering innovation-led growth and creating new opportunities for youth in emerging sectors. The proposed AVGC-XR Policy is expected to complement initiatives such as the Tripura Startup Policy 2024 and the Tripura Cybersecurity Policy 2025, helping position Tripura as an emerging AVGC-XR destination in the Northeast.
