Agartala, August 29, 2025: Tripura’s former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday called upon students and young people to make sports a part of their daily routine, stressing that at least one hour a day should be devoted to physical activities.

Speaking at a National Sports Day programme organised by Kendriya Vidyalaya, ONGC, Deb underlined the Centre’s efforts to strengthen India’s sports ecosystem under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He noted that the Government of India has enacted a new law to ensure transparency in sports policies, which was passed in Parliament despite strong opposition. “Earlier, nepotism and favouritism denied opportunities to many deserving sportspersons. With this transparent law, no athlete will return empty-handed,” Deb said.

He pointed out that sports has been brought under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, making it more accountable. The MP also highlighted that the sports budget had seen a sharp rise from ₹1,643 crore to ₹3,894 crore, reflecting the Centre’s commitment to nurturing talent.

Praising the Prime Minister’s vision, Deb remarked, “The Prime Minister knows what it takes to scale heights in sports and education. Under his leadership, India is winning medals in various international events.”

He further said that India is preparing itself to host the Olympics in the future. “When the Olympics is hosted in India, the whole world will look at us with admiration,” Deb added.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who actively engaged in the celebrations.
