Agartala, February 13, 2026: Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharya on Friday demanded the introduction of a high-speed train service on the Agartala–Guwahati route, saying it is crucial to make Tripura’s rail connectivity more dynamic, efficient, and time-bound.

Raising the issue in the Parliament of India, Bhattacharya said Narendra Modi has gifted the Northeast the “diamond model” of development, under which rail infrastructure has seen significant expansion. He noted that Tripura is now well connected to the rest of the country through the broad gauge network, with regular trains linking Agartala to major cities including Kolkata, New Delhi and Guwahati.

However, the MP pointed out that the Agartala–Guwahati rail journey still takes a long time, causing inconvenience to passengers and impacting business, education, healthcare and tourism. “Modern and fast train services are essential to further strengthen Tripura’s connectivity with other northeastern states,” he said.

Bhattacharya appealed to the Ministry of Railways to introduce high-speed train services on the route, stating that reduced travel time and improved comfort would directly benefit students, working professionals, patients and tourists, while also boosting industry, trade and investment prospects in the state.
