Agartala, September 09, 2025:

Tripura Police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized narcotics worth nearly ₹13 lakh during a late-night joint operation in Sonamura subdivision.

The operation, carried out by Sonamura Police Station and the 81st Battalion BSF, led to the arrest of two residents of UNC Nagar, Fakiradula identified as Idris Mia (60) and Monura Khatun (56). From their residence, officials recovered 100 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup and 600 grams of Yaba tablets hidden in bags and bundles.

Sonamura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das said the accused admitted during interrogation that the consignment was meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Both accused are set to be produced before the court for police remand.

Investigators suspect the seizure is part of a wider cross-border smuggling network, and further arrests are likely.
