Agartala, February 06, 2026: A significant step towards strengthening Self-Help Groups was taken under the IGDC–CREFLAT Project with the launch of a one-month Driving Training Programme for 40 youths from Dhalai and North Tripura. The training programme is being conducted through the Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR), Tripura.
The programme was inaugurated by R. K. Samal, IFS, PCCF & HoFF, who marked the occasion by watering plants, symbolizing environmental stewardship. This was followed by a welcome address by S. Prabhu, IFS, CEO& Project Director, IGDC CREFLAT Project, who encouraged the participants to actively utilize the training facilities and explore livelihood opportunities generated through such initiatives.
Dr. Vincent Darlong, DCTA PMC, briefed the participants on the project activities and outlined the overall objectives of the training programme, emphasizing the vision of building a healthy forest and a healthy Tripura. Dibakar Das, Chief Inspector of Motor Vehicles, appreciated the initiative for engaging local youth and motivated them to pursue future prospects in the driving sector.
R. K. Samal, PCCF & HoFF, highlighted the importance of engaging youth groups in sustainable livelihood activities and stressed the critical role of forest protection in addressing climate change challenges.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Kanoj Debbarma, Principal, IDTR Tripura, who spoke on the importance of skill development along with nurturing civic sense among the trainees. The event ended with a live demonstration by the participants in the simulator room, showcasing the practical aspects of the training.
