Agartala, March 17, 2026: During the Zero Hour discussion in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday raised two key issues concerning alleged illegal construction at Boxanagar in Sepahijala district and the regularisation of DRWs along with around 40,000 contractual employees.

Highlighting the matter, Chaudhury said, “Illegal construction is being carried out on government ‘Khaas’ land. A memorandum of complaint has already been submitted to the Sonamura sub-divisional administration. Following this, Deputy Collector Biswajit Das conducted an investigation and submitted a report on February 11, 2026.”

He further alleged that as per the complaint, four individuals were found to be constructing buildings illegally on government ‘Khaas’ land. “Despite this, the construction has not been halted. Will the government take steps to demolish these structures, especially considering the possibility of road widening at Boxanagar bazar in the near future?” he questioned.

Raising a second concern, the opposition leader referred to a recent court verdict favouring eight DRWs for regularisation. “Will the government honour the court’s decision and consider regularising around 40,000 contractual employees as well?” he asked.

Responding to the queries, Chief Minister Manik Saha said he would provide a detailed reply on March 23. “I am not fully aware of all aspects at this moment. After collecting complete information, the House will be apprised accurately,” he stated.
