Agartala, August 02, 2025: In a major initiative aimed at overhauling the skill development ecosystem of Tripura, a high-level stakeholder consultation was held on Friday in Agartala. The day-long workshop, titled “Revamping the Skill Development and Employability Ecosystem in Tripura,” was jointly organized by the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC).
The event marked the state’s first large-scale, multi-agency consultation focused on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), laying the groundwork for a significant policy intervention. It brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, academic experts, training providers, and civil society stakeholders.
Paramananda Sarkar Bannerjee, Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister delivered the keynote address stressing the importance of aligning Tripura’s skilling strategy with future economic opportunities and the changing demographic profile of the state.
Facilitated by the IIM Calcutta team led by Prof. Saikat Maitra and Prof. Rajeshbabu R, the consultation featured thematic discussions on emerging sectors such as logistics, IT/ITES, eco-tourism, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, and crafts—identified as key areas for employment growth.
Breakout sessions and panels explored targeted themes including skilling for hospitality, healthcare, bamboo, and rubber-wood industries, alongside cross-cutting issues like gender inclusion, tribal youth engagement, green jobs, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy.
The recommendations and insights drawn from the workshop will feed into a comprehensive policy report and operational toolkit being developed by IIM Calcutta and TIFT. This framework is expected to steer coordinated policy actions and institutional reforms to enhance employability across the state.
Reiterating its commitment, the Government of Tripura pledged to build a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready skill development ecosystem to empower its youth and drive equitable economic growth.
