Agartala, July 04, 2025: In an incident early Thursday morning, a vehicle allegedly involved in drug smuggling overturned near the BSF camp between the Bishalgarh court and the SDPO office spilling cartons of phensedyl, a banned cough syrup on the highway.

The incident took place around 2 AM, when a DI vehicle bearing registration number TR07A-1842, reportedly en route to Kamalnagar lost control and overturned. According to eyewitnesses, moments after the crash, a group of individuals rushed to the scene in a black Scorpio and swiftly retrieved several cartons before fleeing.

“The car was parked in front of the police station for hours. It seemed like they were waiting for a signal. After the crash, they quickly picked up what they could and escaped before police arrived,” said a local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Locals have alleged that the smugglers were tipped off in advance about police movement. “It’s no secret. Cars loaded with phensedyl pass through Bishalgarh every day. Most go unchecked because of alleged collusion. Drug cars are let off after paying commissions,” the source added.

The driver of the overturned vehicle reportedly escaped through Jailkhana Road, and the police were failed to arrest anyone involved. Sources suggest the phensedyl consignment belonged to individuals from Bishalgarh and Motinagar, while the vehicle’s owner resides in Taksapara, Bishramganj.

Reacting to the incident, a police officer from Bishalgarh station stated, “We are investigating the matter seriously. No one involved in drug smuggling will be spared.”
