Agartala, October 16, 2025: In a major step toward strengthening financial awareness in rural Tripura, Minister for Panchayat Department Kishor Barman on Thursday inaugurated a two-day training programme on ‘Financial Literacy and Investor Education’ at Hotel Polo Towers, Agartala.
The initiative, jointly organized by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, aims to empower grassroots representatives with the knowledge to combat financial fraud and promote prudent financial management among rural citizens.
Calling the occasion “historic” for Tripura, Minister Barman said it marks the first such training camp not only in the state but in the entire Northeast region. He highlighted that many villagers become victims of financial scams due to a lack of awareness and stressed the importance of timely education in financial protection.
“This programme is a milestone in ensuring that our rural population is not financially exploited. By combining SEBI’s financial expertise with the Panchayat Department’s outreach, we can teach citizens how to manage their income, savings, and investments wisely, helping them build financial stability for the future,” Barman stated.
The training is being attended by district and block-level panchayat functionaries and officials, who will later hold financial awareness camps in their respective areas. These sessions will focus on guiding villagers about safe investment practices and ways to identify and avoid fraudulent schemes.
Reaffirming the government’s focus on financial empowerment, Minister Barman said the initiative will be integrated into broader rural development goals. He expressed confidence that the effort would help build financially resilient communities and foster a culture of informed financial decision-making across Tripura.
