Agartala, September 27, 2025: The Amtali police have made a breakthrough in a recent theft case by arresting an accused and recovering stolen property, including gold ornaments worth around ₹7 lakh, a mobile phone and ₹28,000 in cash.
According to officials, the theft took place a few days ago at the residence of Asmita Bhowmik, located near Amtali Bazar. Taking advantage of the victim’s sleep, the accused allegedly fled with valuables. Following the incident, Bhowmik lodged a written complaint at Amtali police station.
Police launched an investigation under the supervision of senior officers and pursued multiple leads. Acting on information from secret sources, the accused, identified as local construction worker Jayanta Bhowmik, was arrested from his residence in the early hours of Saturday.
Authorities said the accused had previously worked at the victim’s house and was familiar with its internal layout and security gaps. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of the stolen gold ornaments, cash, and mobile phone.
Addressing a press conference, the Amtali SDPO said the accused confessed to the crime during initial interrogation. Police will produce him before the court and seek remand to determine if others were involved in the theft.
