Agartala, January 22, 2025: The Tripura Police has successfully arrested a drug dealer and seized a large quantity of illegal drugs at Bagbasa late on Tuesday night.
It is reported that, Bagbasa police station staff under North Tripura district received a tip-off that a passenger from Assam was travelling to Tripura in a Bolero car carrying illegal drugs. Acting on this intelligence, the police set up a checkpoint near the Bagbasa Petrol Pump. As the suspicious vehicle bearing registration number TR01E-3535, arrived at the spot, it was intercepted and thoroughly searched by the officers.
The search led to the discovery of 10,000 Yaba tablets hidden in a secret compartment of the vehicle. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately three lakh taka. The police immediately arrested the drug dealer, identified as Suman Mia, a resident of Taijamuravillage, Madhupur in the Sepahijala district.
Bagbasa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Partha Deb provided details of the operation, stating, “This is a major success in our fight against drug trafficking. The seized Yaba tablets were being transported from Champai, Mizoram, and were intended to be distributed in Sonamura.”
The arrest and seizure have been widely praised as a substantial achievement in curbing the drug menace in the region. The police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation to trace the drug supply network and bring other involved culprits to justice.
“This crackdown sends a clear message that we are committed to eradicating drug trafficking from our community,” OC Partha Deb asserted.
