Agartala, August 22, 2025: Tripura police scored yet another success in its ongoing anti-drug campaign in North Tripura with the arrest of a youth in Amtali area at Kadamtala late Thursday night.

According to police sources, a special operation was carried out around 11 PM based on secret inputs. A team led by Sub-Inspector Tapan Pal intercepted a suspicious youth near Amtali Bazar. The youth, identified as Ruhel Ahmed of Kalagang area, was found carrying five kechis and 234 grams of heroin. Police also seized a motorbike allegedly used for drug trafficking.

“The accused was immediately brought to Kadamtala police station and booked under section 49/25 of the NDPS Act. He is now in police custody,” officials confirmed.

During preliminary interrogation, Ahmed reportedly confessed to having links with both local and cross-border drug syndicates. However, police refrained from sharing further details, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation. “Other members of the gang will also be arrested soon,” an officer assured.

Speaking on the development, an official of Kadamtala Police Station said, “We have taken a strict stance on eradicating drugs. Our campaign against illegal drug trade in the area will continue. The police are making every effort to remove this curse from society.”

It is noteworthy that several such arrests have been made in recent months across border areas of North Tripura, a region often targeted by traffickers due to its proximity to Bangladesh.

Local residents have welcomed the latest operation, expressing hope that sustained crackdowns will help safeguard the region’s youth from the grip of narcotics.
