Agartala, December 10, 2025: Tripura Police detained four Bangladeshi nationals at the Srirampore checkpoint on NH-205 on Monday night after they were found to have entered India without valid documents, officials said.
According to police, a group of five Bangladeshi citizens, including a minor, reportedly crossed into Tripura earlier in the day through the Akhaura Land Customs Station. They later hired a vehicle and began travelling toward Kamalpur.
Acting on specific information, police at the Srirampore checkpoint intercepted the vehicle bearing registration number AS 24A 2927. During questioning, the individuals admitted to having crossed the border illegally. Police said the four adults claimed they fled Bangladesh due to alleged religious persecution and were attempting to reach a relative identified as Prasenjit Debnath of Panisagar in Unakoti district.
The four adults were arrested and produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s court, which remanded them to judicial custody until December 20. They have been identified as Babli Debnath, Shukla Debnath, Badhan Debnath, and Sandip Debnath, all residents of the Itna police station area in Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh.
The minor accompanying them is understood to be under separate handling as per legal protocol.
