Tripura Police Arrests TUNF Militant from Mizoram

Agartala, December 25, 2025: The North Tripura district police continue to tighten their net around members of the banned militant outfit Tripura United National Front (TUNF). Just days after arresting one operative from Dumdum area under Panisagar subdivision, the police have recorded another significant success, this time across the state border in Mizoram.

Acting on a tip-off, a special police team led by Vanghmun Police Station OC Rinpuia Darlong conducted an operation in Mizoram on Wednesday. During the raid, the team apprehended Lalthanga Reang, identified as an active member of TUNF. Police sources confirmed that the accused hails from Bhandarima village under Anandabazar Police Station in Kanchanpur subdivision, and is the son of Harimanohan Reang.

Authorities stated that a case has been registered against the accused under Vangmun PS Case No. 007/2025. Charges include sections 61(2)(A), 148, and 310(4) of the BNS, along with sections 4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. For security reasons, the arrested militant was transferred from Vanghmun to Kanchanpur Police Station on Wednesday night and produced before the Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday.

The arrest has created a stir in the region, with local residents expressing satisfaction over the police’s successful operation. Commenting on the development, Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Asish Kumar Thakur said the crackdown demonstrates the administration’s firm resolve against militant activities.
