Agartala, January 12, 2026: In a significant breakthrough under the Chief Minister’s anti-narcotics drive, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura police seized a large consignment of yaba tablets during a joint operation on Sunday night. Acting on a tip-off from the Special Branch intelligence unit, law enforcers raided a house in Ichai Para, near the India-Bangladesh border, recovering narcotics, cash, and mobile phones.
According to police sources, the raid was conducted at the residence of Taj Uddin, a local resident of Ichai Para. During the search, officials recovered 1,929 yaba tablets packed in 10 packets, four mobile phones, ₹77,910 in Indian currency, and 1,577 Bangladeshi taka. While the house owner managed to escape, one suspect, identified as Nizam Uddin (41) of Bhagyapur GP’s Ward No. 5, was apprehended at the scene.
Kadamtala Police Second Officer-in-Charge Remulus Sangma stated that the seized yaba tablets carry an estimated black-market value of ₹19.29 lakh. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and efforts are underway to arrest the absconding house owner, Taj Uddin.
Local residents alleged that the border area has long been exploited as a safe route for drug trafficking. The latest crackdown has reportedly triggered panic among smugglers operating in the region.
Police confirmed that the seized narcotics, cash, and mobile phones, along with the arrested suspect, will be produced before the Dharmanagar District and Sessions Court on Monday. Authorities are now focusing on tracking down the alleged mastermind, Taj Uddin, to dismantle the network behind the smuggling operation.
