Agartala, February 28, 2026: Tripura Police detained two suspected individuals early Saturday morning during a raid in Tripura’s Tilabazar, located in Kailashahar subdivision of Unakoti district, close to the Indo-Bangladesh international border. Following the operation by Irani police station staff, a case (No. 05/2026) was registered on charges of illegal infiltration.
Inspector Srikanta Chakraborty said the raid was conducted based on intelligence inputs. “The two men were taken into custody due to suspicious movements. Initially, they claimed to be residents of Halair Par village under Chandipur constituency, but inconsistencies emerged during interrogation. Later, they admitted that they were from Sunamganj district in Bangladesh,” he stated.
Police also recovered a questionable Indian PAN card from the detainees. Authorities have contacted the relevant department to verify its authenticity, and forensic examination may be carried out if necessary.
In connection with the incident, an electric auto and its driver have also been detained for questioning. Inspector Chakraborty clarified that the driver’s identity is being withheld for investigative reasons. The suspects will soon be produced before the Kailashahar court, where police will seek remand.
Security has been tightened along the border, with coordinated efforts by police and other agencies to prevent illegal infiltration. The incident has already caused a stir in the border-adjacent areas. Inspector Chakraborty assured that a full investigation will be conducted to uncover the wider network behind the case.
