Agartala, August 15, 2025: Security forces in Tripura averted a major attack ahead of Independence Day celebrations by arresting two suspected militants with explosives in North Tripura, police said on Friday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted a vehicle at Vanghmun on Thursday evening. The operation led to the arrest of two alleged members of the newly formed Tripura United National Force (TUNF) — identified as Dhananjoy Reang of Katlichhera, Assam, and Sadai Nanda Reang of Kasko in Damchhera, North Tripura.
“From their possession, we recovered 14 electric detonators and neogel explosives,” said Superintendent of Police (North Tripura) Avinash Kumar Rai. “Preliminary investigation suggests the duo had planned to target police personnel, destroy police vehicles, and snatch arms and ammunition in a bid to create unrest and attract public attention ahead of Independence Day.”
Terming it a “swift and decisive” operation, Rai said the arrests had “averted a major security incident in the state.”
