Agartala, January 30, 2026: Based on a confidential report, East Agartala police intercepted two men at Jogendranagar Railway Station on Thursday night and recovered 50 bottles of cough syrup from their possession.

Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath said the arrested duo, identified as Ajay Kumar and Bikram Kumar of Nalanda district in Bihar, had brought the consignment from Patna by train. The seized items are estimated to be worth around Rs 75,000 in the local market.

During initial questioning, the accused admitted to transporting the narcotic substance, which police say is frequently misused as an intoxicant. The OC noted that the operation forms part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal drug trafficking in Tripura.

The detainees were produced before court on Friday, with police seeking remand for further interrogation. Investigators are now working to trace the broader network behind the supply chain.
