Agartala, June 16, 2025: In a significant breakthrough in the state’s anti-narcotics drive, Tripura Police on Sunday seized 80,000 Yaba tablets valued at ₹4 crore from a truck at the Churaibari check post in North Tripura district, close to the Assam border.
According to North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, the operation was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs. A small truck entering Tripura was intercepted, leading to the recovery of eight packets of Yaba tablets, carefully concealed within the vehicle.
The seized consignment, meant for illegal distribution, is believed to have a high black-market demand. The SP emphasized that the seizure is a part of the ongoing efforts under Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s “Nasha Mukti Tripura” initiative and is in line with the instructions issued by the Director General of Police (DGP) to curb narcotics trafficking across the state.
One person identified as 24-year-old Sanjay Sahani, a resident of Tripura and the driver of the vehicle was arrested on the spot. Police sources confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to trace the larger network involved in the smuggling operation.
The successful interception is seen as another major step in the state’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety in the region.
