Agartala, September 26, 2025: The Tripura Police has put in place extensive security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful Durga Puja celebration this year, Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag announced on Friday.
Speaking to reporters here in Agartala city, the DGP said close to 3,000 community pujas will be organized across the state this year — about 10 percent higher than last year’s 2,750. Among the districts, West Tripura will host the highest number at 772, followed by Khowai (397), Sepahijala (377), Gomati (352), Dhalai (317), South (268), North (262), and Unakoti (220).
For security arrangements, the state will deploy 6,550 personnel of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), 380 civil police officers, and 920 police recruits, in addition to the regular district forces. Women police will also be posted at key points. “Mobile patrolling, CCTV surveillance, and anti-sabotage checks are being ensured. Around 241 police assistance booths will function with 24-hour wireless communication,” Anurag said.
On traffic management, restrictions will be imposed between 5 pm and 1 am, while movement of passenger vehicles inside the city will remain barred from 1 am to 5 am. Private vehicles will be allowed during this period. On the day of immersion (Mayer Gomon), additional restrictions will be enforced in parts of Agartala. The DGP also warned that misuse of traffic passes would invite strict action.
The police have further directed puja organizers to keep noise levels within the permissible 75-decibel limit, while coordination meetings with committees across districts have already been conducted.
Referring to cross-border security, Anurag said, “We have held meetings with the border forces and prepared strategies for sensitive border areas. At present, there is no specific threat.”
The DGP also revealed that police have cracked down on forceful collection of puja subscriptions, leading to multiple arrests and notices.
Appealing for public cooperation, Anurag said, “Durga Puja is the biggest festival in Tripura, and together we must ensure it is celebrated with peace and harmony.”
