Agartala, August 18, 2025: Tripura’s Kailashahar in Unakoti district witnessed tension on Sunday evening after pork and a letter were recovered from inside the century-old Tilabazar Jame Mosque, sparking outrage among the local Muslim community.

It is reported that, the imam of the mosque first noticed a suspicious plastic packet inside the premises. When locals opened it, they found pork along with a handwritten letter. The letter stated, “Three to four hundred years ago, Tripura was a Hindu state. This is the place of Gaur Govinda. Therefore, the mosque should be demolished.”

Following the incident, a large contingent of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) was deployed to prevent unrest. Senior officials including Irani Police Station OC Biraj Debbarma, SDPO Jayant Karmakar, Additional SP L. Darlong, and Deputy Magistrate Moti Lal Debbarma rushed to the spot.

Leaders such as Gaurnagar Block Vice Chairman Mohammad Badruzzaman, Tripura State Waqf Board Chairman and former MLA Mafswar Ali, and Tilabazar Gram Panchayat Pradhan Ahiduzzaman also visited the mosque.

Badruzzaman condemned the act, calling it a “deliberate attempt to destroy the peace and harmony of Kailashahar.” He recalled previous incidents, including the theft of donation boxes from mosques in Kanakpur and Gaurnagar, and a similar case in Udaipur where pork was placed inside a mosque. He appealed to the Muslim community, particularly the youth, to avoid spreading rumours on social media that could escalate tensions.

Waqf Board Chairman Mafswar Ali demanded immediate police action, stating, “No one has seen who did this, but it is clear that miscreants are behind this heinous act. The culprits must be arrested without delay.”

Police officials confirmed that investigation is underway. Meanwhile, security in and around Tilabazar has been tightened to ensure peace.
