Agartala, August 15, 2025: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) observed the 79th Independence Day on Friday with a series of programmes, beginning with the hoisting of the national flag at the State Congress Headquarters in Agartala. The ceremony was attended by party MLAs, leaders of frontal organisations, and senior Congress members.

Addressing the gathering, TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. “The tricolour is our pride. It resides in the heart of every Indian. But the BJP is using the national flag for its own political interests. They are selling ‘nationalism’,” Saha said.

He alleged that in the past three days, the national flag had been found discarded in drains, on roadsides, and in dustbins. Terming the incidents “extremely shameful” and “a betrayal of public sentiment,” Saha claimed the BJP’s approach has disrespected the very symbol of national unity.

The TPCC chief also accused the BJP-led government of weakening the core principles of the Constitution—social justice, equality, and democracy—while making “tall claims” about development. He charged the government with pursuing divisive politics against minorities, SC/ST/OBC communities, favouring “crony businessmen,” misusing central agencies, and curbing free speech.

As part of its response, the TPCC announced a statewide public outreach campaign to raise awareness among citizens about what it described as the BJP government’s failures and alleged constitutional violations.

“Independence Day is not just about celebration—it is a moment to honour the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and renew our commitment to the ideals they cherished,” Saha said.
