Agartala, October 16, 2025: Founder of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government on Wednesday , accusing it of deliberately avoiding the village committee (VC) elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). He claimed that the BJP fears losing all seats if the elections are held.
Addressing a public gathering, Pradyot said, “It has been nine years since the VC elections were last held because the BJP knows they won’t win a single seat.” He accused the saffron party of following a “use and throw” policy, adding that the TTAADC lacks real power over land rights.
“The Central government had assured direct funding but hasn’t provided it. When we approach the state government, they say—join BJP and you’ll get funds. The same thing happens with Congress or CPI(M). We are forced to bow before national parties for our rights,” he alleged.
Pradyot further said that unlike Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland, where indigenous people hold land rights, in Tripura, such powers rest with the District Magistrates. “Our Tiprasa Accord clearly stated that forest land in TTAADC must be given to tribals, but that promise remains unfulfilled,” he said.
Calling for English-medium education for tribal youth to ensure better employment prospects, he accused the government of favouring only BJP loyalists. “It’s been two years since we signed the Tiprasa Accord, but nothing has moved. They don’t like our unity—when we are divided, they take everything. I will not compromise with anyone,” he asserted.
