Agartala, October 16, 2025: Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma on Wednesday announced his decision to approach the Supreme Court on October 17 regarding the land and customary bills that he alleges have long been denied to Tripura’s indigenous people by successive governments.

Speaking to reporters, Debbarma asserted that the destiny of the state’s indigenous communities cannot be decided by District Magistrates acting on political directives. “The Governor, as the custodian of the Sixth Schedule, must act in the interest of our people,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the officers and legal experts who assisted in preparing the petition, acknowledging the risks they took in supporting the effort.

Debbarma’s move brings renewed focus to the long-standing disputes over land rights and customary laws in Tripura, as the issue now heads to the country’s highest court for adjudication.
