Agartala, December 15, 2025: Founder of the Tipra Motha Party and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Sunday announced that a “Homchang Rally” will be organised in Agartala on December 18 in support of the demand to allow the use of Roman script in examinations.
Debbarma said the rally would be held jointly with various Tiprasa students’ organisations, including the Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), Twipra Youth Students’ Federation (TYSF), Jamatia students’ bodies and several other student groups.
Taking a firm stand on the issue, Debbarma asserted his full support for Tiprasa students. “I am with my students. The choice of script for writing examinations should be decided by us. This issue goes beyond politics; it is about survival, identity and the future,” he said, while appealing to all students’ organisations to unite for the cause.
His announcement comes at a time of heightened political activity in the state ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, scheduled months later. On Saturday, the BJP organised a large joining programme in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, where party leaders claimed the BJP would secure 28 seats and form the council in the upcoming polls.
Reacting to the BJP’s assertion, Debbarma mounted a sharp counter on social media, stating that “everyone knows what is actually going to happen.” He questioned the continued denial of permission to write Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations in Roman script, alleging discrimination against Tiprasa students. “Ministers’ children can study in English-medium schools. Why are Tiprasas denied the same opportunity?” he asked.
Debbarma also alleged attempts to weaken Tipra Motha through monetary inducements to MLAs and MDCs, followed by intimidation using legal pressure, claiming that such efforts had failed. Reaffirming his resolve, he said the party’s movement for tribal rights would continue without compromise.
