Agartala, December 16, 2025: Tripura has emerged as one of the top three performing states in the country in achieving National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification, with more than half of its public health institutions now accredited under the national quality framework.
According to official data, 50.53 per cent of health facilities in the state have secured NQAS certification, enabling Tripura to meet the national benchmark well within the stipulated timeline. With this achievement, the state joins Daman & Diu and Andhra Pradesh in reaching the 50 per cent target ahead of schedule.
At a national conference held in December 2023, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had set a goal to bring 50 per cent of government health facilities under NQAS certification by December 2025 and achieve 100 per cent coverage by December 2026. In line with this directive, the National Health Mission (NHM), Tripura, initiated a structured and time-bound implementation process under the leadership of Secretary Kiran Gitte and with guidance from the state Health Department.
To ensure effective execution, Quality Assurance Committees were constituted at both state and district levels. These committees functioned under the chairmanship of District Magistrates and Collectors, with State and District Quality Assurance Cells closely monitoring progress.
As a result of sustained coordination and rigorous assessments, 491 out of the total 971 health institutions in Tripura have been awarded NQAS certification, marking a significant milestone in the state’s public healthcare journey.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, officially announced Tripura’s achievement on December 2, 2025.
The NQAS is a Government of India certification system designed to evaluate the quality of services in public health facilities. The assessment encompasses hospital services, infrastructure, availability of medicines, clinical skills of healthcare personnel, record maintenance, and patient satisfaction. The information was shared by the National Health Mission through an official press release.
