Agartala, June 06, 2025: The Meteorological Centre in Agartala has reported that Tripura experienced normal rainfall during May 2025, with 419.6 mm recorded—slightly exceeding the monthly average of 403.5 mm by 4%. However, the overall pre-monsoon season from March 1 to May 31 ended with a 16% rainfall deficiency, as the state received a cumulative 555.4 mm of rainfall.
In its latest bulletin released on Friday, the Met Centre highlighted a comparative increase in May’s rainfall this year over the same period in 2024, when the state had recorded 391.9 mm. The district-wise data revealed that Kailashahar in Unakoti district saw the highest rainfall in May at 658.1 mm. North Tripura, meanwhile, emerged with the highest cumulative rainfall at 532.2 mm—an 18% surplus over the normal.
The highest single-day rainfall was recorded in Bishramganj, Sepahijala district, with 211.0 mm of rain on May 30.
Temperature observations for the month showed Agartala Airport registering a maximum of 38.5°C on May 10. The monthly average maximum temperature was 34.3°C—1.1°C above normal—while the average minimum temperature was 25.3°C, marking a 1.5°C rise above normal. The lowest temperature of the month was 21.8°C on May 2.
Additionally, a squall was reported over Agartala Airport on May 10, with wind speeds reaching up to 46 kmph.
With the southwest monsoon expected to arrive soon, the Meteorological Centre has advised continuous monitoring and preparedness.
