Agartala, August 18, 2025: Tripura has witnessed one of its most extensive anti-drug operations in recent years, with the state administration crediting Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics for the success.
According to official figures, over the past three years, police and enforcement agencies have registered 1,665 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the arrest of 2,697 people. Drugs worth more than ₹1,500 crore have been seized during this period, including large consignments of cannabis, banned tablets, cough syrups, and heroin.
Officials say the results are visible not just in seizures but also in convictions. Seventy offenders have been convicted under NDPS provisions so far, with conviction rates in Tripura now among the highest in the Northeast.
The financial year 2024–25 has already seen a 106% rise in drug seizures compared to the previous year, while the destruction of confiscated narcotics has increased by 132%, which the state government describes as “evidence of action, not rhetoric.”
Supporters of the administration argue that the crackdown has strengthened law and order in the state. They say that the government’s strategy has not only curbed smuggling networks but also sent a strong message against organized crime.
