Agartala, July 28, 2025: In a bid to promote sustainable rural livelihoods through skill development, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), under the state’s Rural Development Department, recently conducted a placement drive at Ashray Aawas, Kunjaban.
The drive took place three days back was part of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), a centrally sponsored initiative aimed at empowering rural youth, especially those from BPL families and other vulnerable backgrounds, with industry-relevant training and job opportunities.
Inaugurated by TRLM Chief Executive Officer Tarit Kanti Chakma and the Chief Operating Officer (Skills), the event witnessed participation from 68 candidates across the state. Of them, 45 were successfully placed in prominent private sector firms including Amazon, Flipkart, V Mart Retail Ltd, Tata Zudio, Tata Westside, Creamstone and Wistron. Job roles offered ranged from warehouse supervision and retail associate positions to roles in food and beverage services.
Addressing the participants, CEO Chakma urged the youth to view this as a stepping stone towards long-term career growth. “With persistence and experience, you can grow into supervisory and managerial positions,” he noted.
Under the DDU-GKY scheme, candidates receive residential training in NSQF-aligned courses such as General Duty Assistant, IT & ITeS, Logistics & Warehouse, Sewing Machine Operation, and F&B Services. Training durations vary from three to nine months. To date, 14,300 rural youths have been trained under the scheme in Tripura, with 9,311 already placed in jobs across the state and beyond.
TRLM continues to organise such placement initiatives, strengthening the link between skill-building and employment, and reinforcing its mission to uplift rural communities through gainful livelihoods.
