Agartala, September 15, 2022 : A scuffle broke out between workers of Left Front and police personnel during a protest at Circuit house area here in Agartala city on Thursday. During the brawl, with the Tripura State Rifles personnel, one of the Left activists sustained grievous injuries and shifted to hospital while police used water cannons to disperse the protestors.
The youth wing of CPIM-led Left Front, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Thursday organized a protest procession with a nine-point charter of demands. This wing was also supported by Students Federation of India, Tribal Students Union and Tribal Youth Federation.
Speaking to reporters here, DYFI state secretary Nabarun Deb said “Today, we have organized a rally demanding the government to fulfil our nine-point charter of demands. The main agendas of our protest are – lack of teachers in educational institutions, no employment of youths and stop attacking on opposition supporters and workers across the state.”
“Similar rallies have been organized in almost all the 23 sub-divisions of the state. In the past four and half years, the BJP-led coalition government has destroyed the Educational sector. A war has been declared by the government against the unemployed youths. Not only these, the government had promoted terror-like activities and the selling and consumption of drugs had become rampant across the state,” he added.
As per the pre-scheduled programme, the workers and supporters of DTFI, SFI, TYF and TSF, all youths and students wings of the CPIM were supposed to organize this mass deputation event in front of Civil Secretariat, but the police and TSR personnel thwarted their rally from approaching further in front of Circuit House through barricades. However, the protestors attempted to move the barricades, but the TSR personnel stopped them. During the tussle, one of the workers sustained injuries. He has been shifted to GBP hospital, the state’s top referral hospital for treatment.
