Agartala, February 14, 2026: Tripura has secured export orders for 500 metric tonnes of organic ginger and 20 metric tonnes of bird’s eye chilli from German buyers during BIOFACH 2026 held in Nuremberg, Germany.
The development was announced by Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who attended the international organic trade fair and addressed delegates at the event.
According to the Minister, German buyers expressed keen interest in visiting Tripura after evaluating the state’s range of certified organic products. He had travelled to Germany to participate in BIOFACH 2026 and promote Tripura’s organic produce at the global platform. The four-day event commenced on February 10 and concluded on February 13, drawing participation from countries across the world.

Highlighting the institutional framework behind India’s participation, Nath said the conference was organised under the aegis of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. He noted that APEDA is the lead organisation for India at BIOFACH 2026 and plays a pivotal role in expanding the country’s footprint in international organic agriculture markets.
“APEDA has set an ambitious target to increase India’s share in global organic food exports from around 2.5 per cent at present to nearly 12 per cent over the next five years,” Nath said, adding that Tripura is aligned with this growth trajectory.

Emphasising the broader national vision, the Minister stated that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, India is steadily positioning itself as a global hub for organic food. He described organic farming in Tripura not as a recent shift but as a practice deeply rooted in the state’s geography, biodiversity, high rainfall patterns, forest ecosystems, and traditional farming systems.
Over the past decade, he said, Tripura has converted its natural advantages into a structured and market-oriented organic movement. At present, 53 organic Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) are operational in the state, supporting value chains and market integration. More than 26,000 hectares of land have been registered and certified organic, with over 26,800 farmers enrolled under the Organic Certification System.
Tripura’s organic portfolio includes premium aromatic rice varieties such as Kali Khasa and Hari Narayan, black rice like Maimi Hangar, sticky rice such as Biron, along with bird’s eye chilli, sesame, turmeric, ginger, pineapple, jackfruit, and other indigenous agri-horticultural produce.
The Minister underscored that all products adhere to stringent organic standards, traceability protocols, and food safety norms, ensuring quality assurance for international markets.
