Agartala, August 07, 2025: Tension gripped Tripura’s Ward No. 1 of Hiracherra ADC Village under Gournagar RD Block in Unakoti district late last night following a violent clash between two groups over the alleged sale of dog meat. At least seven people, including a woman, sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Unakoti District Hospital.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from a previous incident in which three individuals were accused of slaughtering and selling dog. Among the accused, one Pintu Das has been absconding since the initial complaint was filed.
“Last night, Pintu Das’ family members allegedly launched an attack on the house of Rajaram Nunia Munda, the original complainant. When Rajaram’s wife, Surji Gaur, and others tried to stop them, they were severely beaten,” a local resident told reporters.
Among the injured were Golap Chasha, his brother Budhan Chasha, Sultan Ali and Surji Gaur. Eyewitnesses claimed that sharp weapons were used during the assault. “Golap and his brother were soaked in blood. They were attacked with sharp objects,” said a villager.
However, the opposing group lodged a counter-allegation, stating that Rajaram Nunia and his associates attacked Chandan Das’ house. “Chandan Das and Sama Bauri were injured while trying to defend themselves,” said a relative. Chandan Das reportedly sustained serious injuries to his eyes.
Upon receiving reports of the clash, police forces from both Kailashahar and Irani stations, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayant Karmakar, rushed to the scene. “We have brought the situation under control. Tension still prevails, and security personnel have been deployed in the area,” said Karmakar.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and assured that legal action will be taken against those found guilty. Meanwhile, panic has spread among the residents, prompting appeals for peace from local leaders.
