Agartala, July 18, 2025: Tension gripped the area outside Shiksha Bhavan on Friday as members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Tripura State Committee, staged a protest demanding timely conduct of semester exams, proper implementation of the academic calendar, and enhanced safety for female students in educational institutions.
As part of the Shiksha Bhavan Chalo campaign, SFI activists marched through various parts of the city before converging outside the Shiksha Bhavan. However, the protest took a tense turn when the administration stopped the demonstrators at the gate, leading to a heated demonstration on the spot.
Speaking to reporters, an SFI student leader said, “The education system in the state has completely collapsed. Students are confused and frustrated because colleges are announcing new semester dates without releasing the results of previous ones.” He added, “According to UGC guidelines, exams should be conducted after at least three months of academic activity. But here, exams are being rushed after just 10 to 15 days of classes.”
The protestors also alleged that the Higher Education Department has consistently avoided meetings with student representatives despite multiple requests. “We have tried repeatedly to speak with the authorities, but they are ignoring students’ concerns. This protest was the last resort,” the student leader claimed.
According to SFI, over 30,000 students enrolled in degree colleges across the state are being affected by these academic irregularities. The protest continued for several hours under police observation, although no untoward incident was reported.
