Agartala, August 11, 2025: Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen was shifted to Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru on Monday for advanced medical treatment, following a critical brain surgery performed at ILS Hospital in Agartala.

The move, decided by his family in line with Sen’s personal wishes, comes as part of efforts to secure the best possible care during his recovery.

Sen’s health crisis began on August 8 when he collapsed at Agartala Railway Station while preparing to travel to his hometown, Dharmanagar. He was rushed to Tripura Medical College and Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital, Hapania, where doctors detected an internal brain haemorrhage and recommended urgent surgery. He was later shifted to ILS Hospital, where neurosurgeons operated on him. On Sunday, two specialists from AIIMS Delhi evaluated his post-operative condition.

Speaking to reporters, Sen’s daughter expressed optimism, displaying a recent photograph of her father. “I will try to bring him back to that state,” she said, adding, “Many of his dreams remain unfulfilled. He is the Sharad Pawar of Tripura and will return healthy to continue his duties as Speaker.”

Sen’s son defended the family’s decision regarding hospital transfers, stressing that his father’s condition was critical and urging against politicising the matter. “This is not the time for politics,” he said.

The family thanked Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for his support and praised the efforts of the medical teams in Tripura who worked to stabilise the Speaker’s health.
