Agartala, July 03, 2025: In view of the Kharchi Puja, one of Tripura’s most significant festivals, the state government has announced the operation of two special trains between Agartala and Dharmanagar from July 4 to July 9 to accommodate the increased flow of pilgrims and visitors.

Kharchi Puja, a week-long celebration held at the revered Chaturdash Devata Temple in Old Agartala, draws thousands of devotees each year. People from across the state gather to participate in the rituals and vibrant fair that mark this ancient tribal festival.

To ensure smooth travel for festival-goers, the Northeast Frontier Railway, in coordination with the state government, will run special passenger trains on the Agartala-Dharmanagar and Dharmanagar-Agartala routes during the festival week. Each of the trains will have six coaches.

“On the occasion of the traditional Kharchi Puja, a festival of unity among all communities, special trains have been arranged by NF Railways from Dharmanagar to Agartala for the convenience of pilgrims travelling to the temple of the fourteen gods,” said Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a social media post on Wednesday.

Expressing his gratitude for the initiative, the minister added, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for making this special arrangement possible.”
