Agartala, December 29, 2025: A fresh incident of racial violence against people from Northeast India has claimed the life of 24-year-old MBA student Angel Chakma from Tripura. He was attacked in Dehradun on December 9 by a group of miscreants who allegedly assaulted him with sharp weapons after he protested against racial slurs. Severely injured, he was admitted to Graphic Era Hospital, where he fought for his life for 17 days before succumbing to his injuries. Following his death, police added murder charges to the case and confirmed that five accused have already been arrested.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who assured strict action against the culprits. Tripura Minister Santana Chakma also demanded immediate justice, stating that efforts are underway to ensure the accused are punished without delay.

The incident has sparked outrage across Tripura, with Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma condemning the attack and writing on social media that while the world was celebrating Christmas, Tripura lost Angel Chakma, and justice must be delivered for this innocent soul.

Angel’s death has reignited concerns over the safety of Northeast Indian students in other states and raised questions about the role of authorities in preventing racially motivated crimes. His family and the people of Tripura now await justice as the investigation continues.
