Agartala, February 04, 2026: Students once again staged a protest at the OBC Welfare Department, alleging prolonged delays in receiving their scholarships. Protesters said they have been waiting for months, repeatedly visiting the office only to be told that funds are unavailable. As a result, they claim they are forced to return empty-handed almost every month.
On Wednesday, agitated students gathered at the department demanding immediate release of pending scholarship funds. Officials reportedly asked them to return at the end of the month, a response that further fueled their anger. Students alleged that no clear timeline has been provided for disbursement, and the uncertainty is severely affecting their education.
Protesters highlighted that without scholarship money, many are unable to pay tuition fees, leading to harassment from institutions. Some even face difficulties in sitting for examinations due to unpaid fees. They warned that financial instability is making it increasingly difficult to continue their studies.
The students demanded urgent resolution of the issue and immediate payment of pending scholarships. They cautioned that if their demands are not met without further delay, they will be compelled to launch a larger movement in the coming days.
