Agartala, June 04, 2026: The proposed rail-road blockade scheduled for June 5 by the Tripura Guerrilla Returnees’ Demand Committee (TGRDC), a joint platform of surrendered militants, has been withdrawn following discussions with the state government.

The decision came after a meeting held under the chairmanship of Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, where representatives of the TGRDC raised several long-pending demands, including proper rehabilitation and livelihood support for former militants.

Director of the Tribal Welfare Department, Subhasish Das, said the government held detailed discussions with the representatives and assured them that their concerns would be addressed. Following the meeting, the organization agreed to call off the agitation programme that was planned to coincide with the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Tripura.

Addressing one of the key demands related to rehabilitation through the Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission, Das stated that the project initially received approval for rubber plantation over 30,000 hectares, which was later expanded to 69,000 hectares. However, the financial allocation was not increased proportionately to cover the expanded area.

“The state government has already approached NABARD seeking additional funds to facilitate implementation of the entire project,” he said.

To find a long-term solution to the livelihood and rehabilitation issues of surrendered militants, the Tribal Welfare Department will convene a meeting on June 9 involving all concerned departments and representatives of the former militants.

Officials expressed hope that continued dialogue and coordinated efforts would help resolve the pending issues and ensure sustainable rehabilitation opportunities for the surrendered militants across the state.
