Agartala, July 07, 2025: A significant meeting of surrendered cadres of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and their families was convened on Monday evening at the three-storied building of the Lenglama Hati Welfare Society located adjacent to the Bishramganj vegetable market in Sepahijala district.
The session commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and floral tributes to NLFT martyrs. The meeting was attended by NLFT President Biswamohan Debbarma, General Secretary Upendra Reang, former Secretary Montu Koloi and senior leaders Kanuraj Debbarma, Ramani Debbarma, Army Chief D. Bokrang and D. Bamtom.
Around 250 surrendered NLFT members and their families from across Sepahijala district participated in the gathering. Speaking to the media, NLFT President Biswamohan Debbarma and General Secretary Upendra Reang highlighted the objective of the meet to assess the well-being of the former militants and their families and to evaluate the progress made since their return to mainstream life through the tripartite peace agreement.
Reang emphasized the group’s key demands to the central and state governments, which include the establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and a Central Tribal University in Tripura. He clarified that the NLFT’s current activities are not politically motivated but are geared toward building a strong social pressure group to ensure their legitimate demands are fulfilled.
“We seek a special rehabilitation package for our community. Our next steps should focus on the proper implementation of the peace accord,” Reang stated.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where family members of deceased NLFT cadres were felicitated with traditional ‘Risha’ garments as a mark of respect.
