Agartala, December 31, 2025: In a significant development for weather forecasting and disaster management, Tripura has moved forward with the installation of a state-of-the-art Doppler Weather Radar.

An agreement between the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Tripura government was formalized today at the TIFT conference hall, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha announced on social media.

According to the Chief Minister, IMD Director General (Meteorology) Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra led the official exchange of land lease documents for the radar installation. The advanced Doppler Weather Radar will enable real-time, high-resolution monitoring of cyclones, heavy rainfall, and other extreme weather events. Officials noted that the system will benefit not only Tripura but also neighboring states.

In addition, three automated weather observation stations have been handed over to the IMD. These will be integrated into the national meteorological network, strengthening flood forecasting, water resource management, and disaster preparedness capabilities.

Experts believe the initiative marks a major leap in safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and developmental activities through precise weather data and modern technology.
