Agartala, October 29, 2025: The three-day postage stamp exhibition ‘Tripex-2025’, organised by the North-Eastern Circle of the Postal Department, commenced on Wednesday at Nazrul Kalakshetra and Lalit Kala Academy in Agartala. The exhibition aims to showcase the rich heritage, culture and history depicted through postage stamps from India and abroad and will remain open to the public till October 31.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Maharaj Kumari Pragya Debbarman, convener of the Indian National Art and Cultural Heritage (Tripura Chapter), Regional Postmaster General of the North-Eastern Region-I, Joseph Lalrinsailova, philatelic jury member and Philatelic Congress of India member Rajesh Jhunjhunwala, and President of the Prayagraj Philatelic Society Rahul Ganguly.

In his welcome address, Joseph Lalrinsailova described stamp collecting as a meaningful and educational hobby, expressing hope that the exhibition would inspire young minds. Rajesh Jhunjhunwala highlighted that postage stamps reflect a nation’s heritage and cultural identity, while Rahul Ganguly said philately offers a window into the global historical narrative, calling the exhibition a “festival of knowledge and culture”.

Chief guest Maharaj Kumari Pragya Debbarman noted that philately is a journey of heritage preservation, not merely the collection of stamps. She recalled the royal legacy of stamp collection in Tripura, crediting Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya’s descendants for introducing revenue and postage stamps in the state’s administration.

Following the formal inauguration, a special commemorative stamp, as well as postcards featuring flora, fauna and heritage sites of the Northeast, including Tripura’s iconic palaces, were released.

The exhibition features about 2,000 rare postage stamps displayed across 130 frames, with special focus on Tripura’s Neermahal and Unakoti. Competitions in poster drawing, letter writing, letter box painting and philatelic quizzes were organised for students. Participants from Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are showcasing their collections, with awards to be presented to the best exhibits.
