Agartala, October 10, 2025: Tripura Police have successfully arrested three out of the six convicts who escaped from Dharmanagar Sub-Jail during the Durga Puja festivities. The fugitives were on the run since October 1, when the shocking jailbreak took place on the morning of Maha Nabami at the sub-jail located in Kalikapur, Dharmanagar.
North district police reported that the escape was the result of “extreme negligence of the jail police”, which has drawn widespread criticism and triggered a high-level investigation by the North District administration. Acting swiftly, the district police launched extensive combing operations across the region, leading to the arrest of three convicts Narayan Datta, Abdul Pata and Rahim Ali.
Among the arrested, Rahim Ali, a resident of Uttar Phulbari village, was apprehended from Sribhumi in Assam and brought back to Dharmanagar. He is reportedly involved in multiple theft and robbery cases registered at Kadamtala Police Station. The police have registered a new case, No. 88/25, at Dharmanagar Police Station in connection with the jailbreak.
However, three fugitives Roshan Ali, notorious dacoit Nazim Uddin and Sunil Debbarma are still absconding. A large-scale manhunt has been launched across the state, and surveillance has been tightened along border areas to prevent their escape outside Tripura.
Speaking to reporters at Dharmanagar Police Station, North District Superintendent of Police Abhinash Rai said, “We are interrogating the arrested individuals to trace the whereabouts of the remaining three. Our operations are continuing round-the-clock.”
Following the incident, the security system of the sub-jail has come under sharp scrutiny. Authorities have strengthened vigilance within the jail premises and initiated interrogation of the staff on duty during the jailbreak.
The incident has stirred strong reactions across Dharmanagar. While the arrests have brought some relief to local residents, apprehension persists until the remaining three convicts are recaptured.
